The attorneys at Watts Guerra have served in leadership positions in some of the largest and most influential cases in the nation, including a number of mass torts. Our experience representing large numbers of clients in group matters had earned our firm a respected name in the legal industry.
Among the many instances of our firm’s litigation leadership, Mikal Watts negotiated the first of two global settlements with Bayer Crop Sciences, totaling $750 million for rice farmers harmed by the reduction of rice prices caused by contamination of the U.S. rice supply by GMO rice. This settlement resolved all state court litigation filed in Arkansas, Texas, and Louisiana, and served as a template for the subsequent settlement of all federal court claims, consolidated in the Eastern District of Missouri, in MDL 1811, In Re: Genetically Modified Rice Litigation. This agricultural mass tort compensated rice farmers and landlords across multiple states for damage resulting from unintentional contamination by GMO rice, which dramatically reduced the market value of their crops. Mr. Watts led the effort to obtain a $750 million settlement, making him one of only a very few attorneys experienced in agricultural mass torts, handling GMO mass actions to great financial success for his clients.
Our team of lawyers has extensive national litigation experience in mass torts such as medical devices, consumer products, and pharmaceuticals. Watts Guerra has obtained billions in recoveries for clients across the country, representing clients in matters ranging from work-related injuries to defective automotive component parts.
Clients can rest assured knowing that we have taken on some of the most powerful corporations in America and won. Our track record of successful results proves how effective we have been and will continue to be when fighting for the legal rights of our clients.
